The Mitchell County Economic Development Commission was created in the 1940s to coordinate economic development efforts for the county. The fourteen-member board represents the private business, government, and education sectors.

The mission of the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission is to provide a unified economic development program that will encourage and promote the establishment, development, and retention of industrial, commercial, residential, and retail businesses in Mitchell County.
